Islandeady v Moy Davitts   16/10/2017

Disappointment

Islandeady’s Intermediate team and their supporters went to James Stephens Park, Ballina, on Saturday last to contest the Mayo Intermediate Championship semi-final. Islandeady started very well, dominating the game and creating many scoring chances for themselves. Two goal offensives in the early stages of the game did not register, however, and supporters wondered if this would cost dearly in the final minutes. Islandeady continued to press forward with points from Brendan Gibbons, Jonathan Concannon, Cormac Gordon and Darragh Joyce. However, many more went astray and although Islandeady looked to be the better team, this was not reflected on the scoreboard. Just before half time Islandeady suffered two blows when midfielder Cormac Gordon had to leave the pitch because of injury and Bohola Moy Davitts scored a goal, which meant Islandeady went to the dressing room trailing by two points.

In the second half, many more scoring attempts went astray for both sides, the strong wind influencing the flight of the ball on more than one occasion. The game ended in disappointment for Islandeady as they had to concede a place in the Mayo Intermediate final to Bohola Moy Davitts. The final score was Bohola Moy Davitts 2-11, Islandeady 0-13.
