A Positive Performance 2017-05-08 10:03:00

A positive performance

Islandeady travelled to Abbey Park, Mayo Abbey, for their first game in the Mayo Intermediate Championship 2017, where they registered a resounding victory over the home side, Mayo Gaels. Captained by Ollie Feeney, they were purposeful and cohesive in their approach, creating many scoring opportunities for themselves and defending with effective vigour. Islandeady’s Brendan Gibbons and Darragh Joyce scored the opening two points; Alan Morris and Adam Gallagher responded with two points for Mayo Gaels. A long period of fast-moving football followed before Mayo Gaels recorded two more points but these were balanced out by four unanswered points from Danny McGowan, Dylan Gallagher and Peter Collins, bringing the half-time score to Islandeady 0-6, Mayo Gaels 0-4.

In the second half, Islandeady steamed ahead of their opponents with three unanswered points. Then a slick movement by Cormac Gordon and Darragh Joyce was expertly finished by Jonathan Concannon to produce a goal. Relentlessly pushing forward, Islandeady scored five more points, with Seamie Lally and Pat Carolan contributing a point each. The final score was Islandeady 1-14, Mayo Gaels 0-7.
