Kelly Cup

Islandeady took on Ballintubber in Islandeady on a beautiful summer’s afternoon and the result was an entertaining tussle for the right to progress in the Kelly Cup competition. There was fast, free-flowing football with lots of scores from both teams throughout the game. Islandeady started well, with a point from Johnathan Concannon and a goal from the tireless Darragh Joyce. Ballintubber responded with four points and a goal, but these were neutralised by four points from Islandeady to bring the score to 1-5 apiece. Islandeady outscored Ballintubber for the rest of the first half, leaving them one point ahead at the break.

After the break, Ballintubber began the counterattack with a point and a goal, but Islandeady responded once again, putting four points on the board, keeping club secretary Cathy very busy. Eleven minutes on, the teams were level again, at 1-13 to Islandeady and 2-10 to Ballintubber. Ballintubber rallied again, scoring three points, but these were cancelled out by a peach of a goal from Liam Joyce. Level again, Islandeady’s luck changed and a penalty followed by three frees and a point from play put the visitors ahead. Two more points from Islandeady brought the game to an end, at 2-15 to Islandeady, 3-17 to Ballintubber.

Scorers for Islandeady were Darragh Joyce 1-1, Liam Joyce 1-0, Danny McGowan 0-5, Vinnie Feeney 0-4, Jonathan Concannon 0-3, Barry Walsh 0-1 and Dylan Gallagher 0-1.
