A Good Win

Islandeady produced a fine display of good football to defeat Ballina Stephenites in their Mayo Senior League Division 1B match on Saturday. Dominating the game for the first ten minutes, Islandeady recorded six points to the Stephenite’s single point. Islandeady continued to press on, scoring two more points, while the Ballina team added three more points to their tally. A heavy shower made things difficult for everyone, but in the remaining minutes of the first half, Ballina succeeded in scoring three points to bring the half-time score to 0-8 for Islandeady and 0-7 for Ballina.

The Stephenites started the second half with determination, scoring three points before Islandeady’s Jonathan Concannon and Brendan Gibbons replied with a point each. Ballina looked strong when they scored two more points followed by a good goal and two further points. However, Islandeady made a determined attack on the Ballina goal which resulted in a goal by Jonathan Concannon. Ballina got one more point, but it was to be their last. Danny McGowan and Darragh Joyce scored five points between them to bring the sides level. Then Peter Collins put the winning point over the bar, to the delight of the Islandeady supporters. The game ended Islandeady 1-16, Ballina Stephenites 1-15.
