County Quarter Final Success

Islandeady produced a commanding display in their Intermediate Championship quarter final match against Burrishoole on Sunday last. At no stage of the game did the men in green concede the lead to their opponents. Islandeady opened the scoring with a point, and while Burrishoole replied with a point of their own, Islandeady recorded four more points without reply. Then a blistering goal from Darragh Joyce announced Islandeady’s intentions for this game. Burrishoole fought back with four points but Islandeady replied with three of their own. Burrishoole were not to be easily put down, however, and scored an excellent goal. Islandeady held their focus and added three more points to their tally to put them six points ahead at the break.

Islandeady dominated in the second half too, but were rudely reminded by Burrishoole that they could not afford to relax. A goal and six points from Burrishoole was not enough however; Islandeady scored seven points. This, together with a superb goal by Jonathan Concannon and strong, unyielding defence, won the game for Islandeady. The final score was 2-18 to Islandeady, 2-12 to Burrishoole. Islandeady now looks forward to their semi-final clash with Bohola Moy Davitts next Saturday at 4.30pm in James Stephens Park, Ballina.

Scorers for Islandeady were Jonathan Concannon 1-3, Darragh Joyce 1-2, Brendan Gibbons 0-6, Cormac Gordon 0-2, Dylan Gallagher 0-2, Danny McGowan 0-2, Diarmuid Gibbons 0-1.
