Heroic performance - U16 2018-06-11 11:14:00

Well done to the Under-16 boys who contested the Division 5 League county final on May 22nd in Páirc Naomh Muire, Tuar Mhic Éadaigh. They played lovely, open football against Carras (Garrymore/Kilmaine), displaying very good teamwork. Caillin Joyce, Brian O’ Flaherty and Liam Morris scored Islandeady’s seven points in the first half, while Kyle Monroe scored a goal and two points for Carras. The second half was an entertaining affair; Saul McCarthy pulled off a great save while Caillin Joyce won two marks and scored a point. Brian O’ Flaherty scored a goal and Thomas Coen, Liam Morris and Ross Harmon contributed four points to bring the final score to 1-11 for Islandeady, 2-8 for Carras. This meant that the boys had to play extra time to decide who would bring the title home. In the first half of extra time Islandeady were comfortable, and looked like they could take the title. However, Carras began the second half with renewed energy, and with the tension mounting by the minute, kept the pressure on Islandeady. The final whistle sounded with Islandeady at 1-13, Carras 3-10, ending a fantastic game of football. Someone had to concede defeat, and this time it was Islandeady.
