Mayo Intermediate Championship

This clash with Burrishoole took place in McHale Park under lights in damp, drizzly conditions. Barry Walsh opened the scoring for Islandeady, but it was Burrishoole that recorded the next six points, while Islandeady’s Darragh O’ Malley had to leave the field because of injury. Then Levi Barrett skillfully scored a penalty for Islandeady, followed by three points from Johnny Walsh, while Burrishoole managed one more point. This left the sides level at 1-4 to 0-7, but Burrishoole scored one more to bring them ahead by one point at half time.

The second half was hotly contested. Niall McCormack scored a point, which was answered by one from Burrishoole. Burrishoole’s Jason Doherty and Islandeady’s Johnny Walsh traded points, and this was followed by one more point for Burrishoole. Danny McGowan and Brendan Gibbons brought Islandeady level with a point each. Once again each side got a point each until the goal came for Burrishoole. There was no time for Islandeady to respond, and the game ended 1-9 to Islandeady, 1-12 to Burrishoole.
