Annual General Meeting 2019-12-13 15:37:00

Annual General Meeting

At the Annual General Meeting of Islandeady G.A.A. club that was held recently, Chairperson Tony Collins and Secretary Cathy Carney looked back over a good year.

The club now has one of the premier venues in the county, due to the floodlit second pitch which is in excellent condition. Clubman John McCormack was thanked for all his work on the project and on the grounds generally. The pitch can be rented out at €200 per session, with all money generated going back into the club.

The underage structure is second to none, under the stewardship of Coaching Officer Pat Ryan and Seán McLoughlin. Behaviour of young players is exemplary, with respect for the opposition and referees at the core of all club activities. Almost 200 children attended Islandeady’s 7th annual Cúl Camp and made new friends and developed new skills.

The girls of Islandeady LGFA had a fantastic year, reaching the county league final at Under 13 level and winning the county final at Under 14 level. Rory Courell and Ken Irwin work very hard in cooperation with others to develop the ladies’ game.

The minor men’s team under Kieran Gibbons and Kevin Burke won the county league title, and the Intermediate team will play championship football at Intermediate level again next year, although they will play at Division 3 level in the league. Manager Eamon Shaughnessy and his team Mick Toland and Johnny Fitzgerald were thanked for all their work.  Players who made the Mayo Junior team this year were Darragh Joyce, Seamie Lally, Danny McGowan and Darragh O’ Malley, while Cormac Gordon served as Selector.

Club player Thomas Devaney was congratulated on his athletics scholarship to Colorado State University.

The fortnightly Lotto remains the main fundraising event for the club. The Lotto committee and sellers of tickets were thanked for their work. The jackpot currently stands at €5,650, which is a tidy sum, and would make a great windfall for someone, just for the price of a ticket at €2 together with a bit of luck. Tickets are available from club members and the next draw will be on December 15th.
