Charlestown 4-14 Islandeady 1-10 2012-07-03 17:38:00

Charlestown's odds for the Intermediate titlle were short before the Championship and they are likely to shorten even further after what was an awesome display against Islandeady to book their place in the quarter finals. The winners of Islandeady & Achill will join them there.

This game was over by the interval as Charlestown took a commanding 2-9 to 0-3 lead and despite a brave second half effort there was no way back for Islandeady.

Charlestown had the first of their four goals when Mark Caffrey fired to the roof of the net from 20 yards. Ollie Conway, Anthony Mulligan, and Aidan Higgins all in turn hit the target before Martin Feeney, from a free, opened the visitors account on 20 mins. Brian McCormack & Vinnie Feeney pulled two points back for Islandeady but Ollie Conway & Paul Warde (two) topped up Charlestowns lead before they struck for their second goal scored by Conway, to leave Islandeady facing a mountain to climb in the second half. Willie McDonnell's early goal from a Vinnie Feeney pass did help but normal service resumed with further Charlestown goals from Colm Maye & GarethO' Donnell to put Denis Kearneys side in pole position as they move with menace to the quarter finals.
